Frequently asked Cake Smash Photography Session questions

HOW FAR IN ADVANCE SHOULD I SCHEDULE MY CAKE SMASH SESSION?

I tend to book cake smash sessions 2-4 months before baby's birthday so we have plenty of time to talk about theme, outfit, etc. The actual session date will be around your baby's birthday. It all depends on when you like to have the final pictures in hand. My current turn around time is 2-3 weeks.

WHAT TIME OF DAY IS BEST FOR THE INFANT SESSION?

I photograph cake smash sessions on weekdays. We will schedule the time for the morning session according to your baby's nap time. I have found over the years that morning sessions work best for my little clients. Sessions usually run about an hour.

HOW DO I NEED TO PREPARE FOR MY BABY'S CAKE SMASH SESSION?

No stress at all. You will receive and email - “The prep guide” as I call it-, with some tips and tricks on what to bring and what to do before, during, and after the session. It will help you prepare for our time together so the studio session will run smoothly.

WHERE WILL MY SESSION BE HELD?

TELL ME MORE ABOUT THE SESSION

Cake smash/ first birthday sessions are fun. I will play your baby's favorite songs during the session, make some funny noises, act silly,... anything to get your little one to giggle. Be aware! Especially if your baby is a quick crawlers or walkers. I will need a hand and you may get a workout in! Parents, please dress in clothing that can get dirty. It can get messy!

Cake smash sessions typically last an hour. This allows time for a mini photo session of the child in a clean outfit, followed by the cake smash, and ending with getting cleaned up in the tub.

WHAT IF MY CHILD IS SICK?

A healthy child is a happy child! Please let me know within 24 hours of your session if your child is sick so we can reschedule your session. If the session is cancelled less than 24h in advance, there will be a $50 fee for the cake.

ARE PARENTS AND SIBLINGS INCLUDED IN THE BIRTHDAY SHOOT?

Cake smash sessions are for the birthday child only. Little ones have a short attention span. Let’s make the session about them. Parent and siblings are not included.
